Of Jessica Sanchez and passionate babies.

So apparently, my bet (along with the Filipino and Mexican population all over) Jessica Sanchez didn't snag the title of American Idol. No surprise there, really.  Though of course, I was really praying hard for Jessica Sanchez.  But I guess the majority of viewers of American Idol (teenage "all-American" girls) chose Phillip Phillips instead.  While I think that Jessica deserves the title, her losing is actually a blessing in disguise.  Throughout the competition, Hollywood producers and artists have expressed their desire to work with them, to name a few Akon and Jesse McCartney.  And now that the competition is over, Jessica already has an offer from producer Tommy Motola to produce her first album!  There's no stopping this girl from success!  She's young, determined, extremely talented, humble and able to rock her killer shoes! ;)  So don't worry Laney, Jessica may not have won the title, but she sure will win the world with her talent.  I just know it. :)

Here's one of my favorite performances of Jessica on American Idol.  Jessica is a hardworking girl and she's always been comfortable performing for others.  Just check out her YouTube channel.  Kids should be reared that way.  When they show talent and interest in something,  parents should encourage and enhance their child's potential.  Much like these two talented cuties I saw on YouTube. Justin and Jeremy are Filipino American twins.  They give me so much gv! :>  Kagigil!

Check out their other vids!  These kids are adorable!!!

The sun shines in Boracay.

Goodmorning, Boracay! :)   Woke up to find my parents already done with their morning dip, and my brother still sleeping.  I really love the location of Sun Village. It's just ten steps from the water. :)  While waiting for my breakfast, I lounged by the beach for a bit. :)

These pictures were taken around 9am, where most were still sleeping.  :))

Boracay's infamous moss!  Konti pa lang yan sa lagay na yan!
And as I was lounging, the Kuya who approached me yesterday and offered water sports activities.  Good thing I was able to convince Papa to go island hopping because he was originally hesitant to spend on such activities.  But what is Boracay without the water activities, right?  Problem is, Bioy was still asleep so we had to wake him up.

Tapsilog!  The tapa was well seasoned.  However, the eggs were too oily.
Pardon my vanity!  I wasn't really able to take that much pictures of me on the beach. :/
Oh, and here are some of the shots I took of Sun Village:

1. Bulabog beach; 2. Boats parked on the beach; 3. Our tiny boat! :)

And so finally, Bioy woke up and off we were to our island hopping adventure.  We walked to Bulabog beach and hopped off on our boat.  Unfortunately, the batteries of the camera weren;t charged the night before, so we weren't able to take pictures of us on the boat, snorkelling, or of the sights we saw along the way. Huhu :/ But nonetheless, we all enjoyed.  We passed by tons of resorts such as Shangrila's, and Manny Pacquiao's resort.  Until we finally reached the snorkelling area.  The first time I snorkelled was at Batangas, and the feeling of seeing fishes and swimming with them is amazing!  I felt that euphoria again in Boracay. :)  However, some of the corals were dead. :(  And the marine life there isn't as rich as the snorkelling sanctuary in Batangas.  But it's still an activity worth shelling out money for.

While we were there, Papa had this stupid idea to stand on one of the rocks/barnacles.  I knew from experience that that's a bad idea, being a victim of cut flesh from the sea a couple of times already.  And cut flesh he sure had!  By the time we surfaced, one of Papa's toes was bleeding uncontrollably.  We were really lucky that our guide, Kuya Robert knows first aid, being a Red Cross volunteer himself.  Unfortunately, he didn't bring his first aid kit on that trip but he still tended to Papa's cut.  We weren't able to go to Puka beach because of Papa's cut, instead we went back to Bulabog.  In one of the sari-sari stores there, Kuya Robert bought a pill (forgot what it was!), broke it in half then applied it to Papa's cut.  It stopped the bleeding! Hurrah!

Kuya Robert doing first aid on Papa's foot.  Masakit ba, Papa? :)

After that exciting event (yes, that probably was the highlight of our trip! Haha), we went to D'Talipapa to have some sea food lunch.  I was too hungry to take pictures, sorry!  Tip though, trike rides are EXPENSIVE in Boracay!  If you can walk, just walk! Damn, that trike ride cost us 80php!  Ridiculous!  But since Papa was injured, not to mention the sun was scorching, we had no choice but to take the trike.

The seafood at D'Talipapa are really fresh and huge!  Sarap kanin ng lobsters, clams at kung anu-ano pang mga isda! Yummeh!  Mama bought one whole head of tangigue and Bioy got shrimp.  We had it cooked at a nearby restaurant.  And because the food was too much for the four of us, we invited Kuya Robert to eat with us. :) After the scrumptious lunch. we went back to White Beach.  I'm not sure how the salary of guides work, do they get a cut from what we paid to the boatman?  Papa gave him a Php200 tip, and we thought it was too little.  Considering that Papa isn't that generous when it comes to tips, it would have been a good idea for the guide to have just quoted his price.  Really peculiar Filipino culture.  There are those who take advantage of others, while there are some who are nahihiya naman. Dapat may standard rate na lang! I guess Kuya Robert thought we were tight-budgeted because he never showed up in front of Sun Village in the following days. :(  I wish him well.  He seemed like a nice person.  If he happens to be your guide in Boracay, please do tip him well! :)

After a long nap, we went out to have dinner.  After a tiring walk towards Station 3, we ended going back to D'mall. We had dinner at Bacolod Inasal. The staff were friendly. :)  There was a bob-tailed cat lurkig around. We thought of Shadow, our own bob-tailed cat back in Manila.  :>

We ended the night with fire dancers. Dang, they're so talented and fearless! o_O

YG, oh YG!

Since foinding about 2ne1, Big Bang and other YG family artists, I have always dreamed of becoming a YG artist.  I admire their talent and creativity.  And there's something special about YG talents that are unique to them, that no other Korean artist/label has.  And who wouldn't want to be a part of the YG family?  From episodes of Big Bang's documentary and 2ne1 tv, I saw how YG takes care of its talents. So imagine my pleasure as I found out about YG's global decision.  I was ecstatic!  Maybe this is my chance to be a kpop star!  But unfortunately, that happiness was short-lived.  :(  I was disappointed to fnd out that there wasn't going to be an audition in the Philippines.  And I was waaaay past the age limit! :)) HAHA Oh well,  I envy those who will be able to audition, to show their talent, to be given a chance. Regardless, I will always be supportive of YG family. :) If anyone who reads this happens to audition, do tell me about it please! :)

Other YG news is that YG will be releasing CDs through Universal Records Philippines on May 26! :)  I checked out their facebook page and wow, the packaging is epic!  There are also freebies! Ack.  Dilemma, where to get money to buy all those goodies? </3

Ain't you so fine, Boracay sand?

Boracay's sand really is powdery!  One of my favorite activities in Boracay is walking barefoot by the beach.  I walk barefoot most of the time that I was there! ;) I just love digging the cool sand with my bare feet.  I really am such a beach girl! I prefer being on the beach than in the city!

1. Papa was ecstatic to find Deco's.  He just loves la paz batchoy!; 2. One of the many interesting souvenirs available on the beach.  The workmanship is really something! :); 3.  We came on a Wednesday, which meant fewer people.  No moss yet on Station 2! By Friday, it was a completely different story.

After the quick nap, Papa and I walked and explored a bit.  We walked a bit towards D'mall.  My gulay! The whole stretch of the beach was filled with people selling souvenirs, offering water sports activities and signs of their happy hour promos.  I made a mental note to try out one of the bars happy hour.  But unfortunately, for that whole duration of the trip, I didn't get to taste a single drop of alcohol. Argh.  I guess I'd just have to return with my friends to experience THE Boracay nightlife. ;)

At Sun Village's kawayan beds. Why is my face like that?! :))

Our first dip in the water was heaven! The last time I swam in the sea was back in November, in Siaton.  The sea of Boracay really is refreshing!  The water is really clear and the waves were really calm.  I'd actually float like a log! :))  There were even fishes who would follow us around! Perhaps the only downside to this is that as more people and boats came in, the moss became evident.   There weren't any moss on Wednesday but by Saturday, there was a build-up of moss.  And I didn't like seeing all the paraws with advertisements! Ugh.  I really hated the ads blocking my view of nature!  Because there weren't really any waves, it was really hot by the beach.  I wasn't expecting it.  I was expecting the sea breeze, but Boracay doesn't have that.  I wonder why?

After our swim, we went out to eat at Deco's.  On the way there, we stopped at various shops to check out various souvenir shops.  From native capiz lamp shells, to paintings of Boracay, handmade bag, accessories, fans, and hand painted ukeleles and wooden dog tags, all are a testament to the creativity of Filipinos.  When you're there, make sure to buy pasalubong from the locals! :)

At Deco's, we all ordered La Paz Batchoy.  Bioy and I ordered the biggest bowl available, while our parents ordered the smaller bowl.  No pictures taken on the La Paz Batchoy, we were all too hungry! :)) Verdict on the batchoy? I found it a bit too salty. :/  It would have been better if calamansi on the side was offered.  The good thing about Deco's though is that you can refill your soup!  :)  It's a first time for all of us to eat at Decos', even if there's a Deco's branch in Manila. :)) Papa just couldn't resist the la paz batchoy!

After the hearty meal, we went off to explore! We walked until we reached Station 3.  Prior to this, the Chinese had one day before they had to leave the Philippines since China and Philippines are engaged in a stand-off at Scarborough Shoal.  We asked the Sun Village people and Southwest people if this will really greatly affect the tourism in Boracay.  According to them,  Filipinos are still the majority of the tourists in Boracay.  And Koreans hold the top spot for foreign tourists.  This was evident as we strolled along the streets.  There really were a lot of Filipino families, and Koreans! :)  A funny anecdote, a Kuya offering water sports activities greeted a fair, chinky eyed girl "Ni hao ma!", the girl answered "Anyong!". :)) Haha I guess Koreans, Chinese and even Japanese are hard to tell apart!  Oh, and even with the ban, there were still a lot of Chinese tourists!

As we walked and walked, we spotted a sand castle! Yay!  Since during the entire trip, we never woke up early, this was the only time we spotted Boracay's famous sand castles.  Next time I go there I'll ask someone to teach me how to build a magnificent sand castle! I remember when I was a kid, it'd be hard transferring buckets of water to my supply of sand.  But I think building sand castles in Boracay is way easier because the sand's damp for a couple of meters.

Best gelato in Boracay! ;)

After the tiring walk, we headed back to the hotel.  But, we grabbed dessert first! :)  Aria's gelato! Yum! I've had gelato before but I must say, Aria's on top of my list now!  The ingredients are fresh, nice mix of creaminess.  It wasn't too sweet, just the perfect sugary taste.  I had strawberry and it even had bis of real strawberry in it! :)  Make sure to get a scoop when you're at Boracay! The 90php/scoop is worth it! :)

We called it a night. We rested at our hotel room. We fell asleep pretty quick until we were awaken by dreams from the bar next door.  What a reminder that Station 2 is where to fun is! :)) Still, we stayed and off to dreamland we went.

It's Boracay, not Bora!

Boracay, the small island famous for its white sand, clear waters and non-stop partying.  I'd always here stories from friends of their Boracay adventures - the epicness of the booze, music and beach bodies galore.  But I am more of a beach girl than a party girl, so Boracay never really attracted me.  I'd rather enjoy the beach by myself, with no strangers roaming around.  So, rather than going to Boracay with friends, I'd rather visit my relatives in Negros Oriental.

But, as fate and luck would have it, off to Boracay my family and I went!  Papa was lucky to have won the raffle prize at his office's Christmas party.  Originally, the prize was two roundtrip tickets to Hongkong.  However, Mama isn't a fan of Hongkong so Papa decided to have the tickets converted to four roundtrip tickets to any local destination.  Two of our choices were Coron and Boracay.  Papa, Mama and I wanted to go to Coron but my brother wanted to go to Boracay. So...we chose Boracay. My brother's the bunso, btw. :))  We were also very lucky because Papa's officemate knows the owner of a hotel in Boracay that might just allow us to stay at their hotel for free. How cool is that? ;)

Plane tickets bought, reservations made, bags packed, and it was off to the airport!

1. Checking for the flight!; 2. Bioy, the Boracay Boy; 3. That killer propeller!; 4. Papa with his shades, loooking stressed at the line.

Our plane was supposed to leave at 9am, and we arrived at the airport at 8.30.  The airport was't that crowded yet, it was just typical end of summer traffic with most people in their summer gear.  And we thought it was only Cebu Pacific whose flights get delayed, our AirPhil flight was also delayed!    It arrived an hour later!  I made a mistake though with the seat selector. I knew that the plane to Caticlan's small, I just didn't know it was a propeller plane! o_O  What I thought was an advantageous seat, was quite scary because our seats were right where the propellers were!  While take off, it felt as if those propellers were out to cut out our heads! :))

Being the small plane that is it, the seat capacity was roughly around 60 passengers.  The seat in front of me was occupied by a young lesbian with nice features. She/he (I'm not sure with what pronoun lesbians prefer to be addressed with.  Someone enlighten me please?) has a perky nose, nice skin and dimples. I must say, she/he is attractive. :) Don't judge! Gender is fluid! ;)

1. Hello Boracay's brand new airport!; 2. Blind musicians offering music at the jetty port.  Don't forget to give them a little something before you hop on the boat! :D; 3. At the port, filled with ads! The whole island is practically littered with ads!; 4. Mama, excited to hit the beach.

After a rough landing coupled with a splitting headache (I really hate small planes and short run ways!), we were finally in Caticlan! :D  Out with the shades!  The Caticlan Airport is new, but smaller than Dumaguete's airport.  Good thing that it was airconditioned because the short walk from the plane to the arrival area was scorching! There was only one conveyor belt but since we were the only flight at that time, we were able to collect our bags right away.  Paying all the other fees (environmental fee, trike fee) took quite sometime until we were the only ones left inside the airport.  As we stepped out,  we were surprised that someone approached us and told us that he was looking for us.  This person was someone from Southwest Tours.  Apparently, airport and jetty transfers were part of the deal. :)  Since the first batch of Southwest clients went off first, we waited a bit at the airport.  We chatted with Kuya for a bit. Too bad we weren't able to give him a tip since he was very nice to us.   But then again, that is his job in the first place. The "tip" culture here in the Philippines is really inevitable, and while it has been ingrained in our culture, there seems to be no standard to tipping.  How much is too much? How scarce is too scarce?

 Para-para-paradise! :)

Anywaaays, back to Boracay...the van ride to the jetty port was short.  Konting tumbling lang, jetty port na. The porters from Southwest helped us carry our luggage to the banca.  The banca was filled with foreign and local tourists and locals.  The sea was calm so we didn't get any sea water inside the banca.  After a couple of minutes, we finally arrived at the jetty port.  People from Southwest picked us up, and off we were to the hotel! :)  We stopped by the main road and walked along an eskinita to the hotel.  At first, we thought that the walk would be really long.  We passed by sari-sari stores, a billiards hall where the locals hang out, then the touristy part of Boracay came into sight.  Hotels, lodges then finally the beach. Aaah.  Itook of my sun glasses to bask in the glorious view of the sun, the sand and of course the sea.  We walked a bit, and we finally reached Sun Village Central.

Sun Village Central is at the north end of Station 2 beside another smaller hotel (I forgot the name, sorry) and BomBom Bar.  It's just a minute of walk away from Dmall! :)  Sun Village has its own kawayan/bamboo beach beds with pillows.  When we arrived we were welcomed with smiled, shell necklaces and fresh calamansi juice. :) The juice was really refreshing! :) Check-in was a breeze so we went up our room to cool off.  We got the de luxe room number 2.  It overlooks the beach. It has two big beds.  The aircon  was cool, and the beds were very comfortable! In fact, we spent half our stay holed up in the hotel room! :))  The room has cable tv so we were able to watch our shows, particularly, American Idol. :)) After exploring our comfy room, we went down to have lunch.  The Mongolian buffet was spread out.  It really looked delicious but we weren't that hungry.  We decided to try their buffet some other time.  Instead, we ordered rice bowls.  Mama ordered sweet and sour fish, my brother and I ordered pork asado, and I forgot what Papa ordered. :))

After lunch, we all went up to take a nap.  We sure do love sleeping, even in the event-filled island of Boracay! :))

Adios, Manila!

Nine hours to go and I'm off to escape the summer heat of Manila. This will be our first trip as a family in years!  My parents aren't fond of going on vacations.  While we spend most of our summers together at Siaton, Negros Oriental, this time we're headed to a new destination.  I'll definitely blog about it when I get back! ;)

For now, I have to pack my things!  Gah. This is the least part of travelling that I look forward to.  Plus the lonq queues at the airport! I hope our baggage doesn't get offloaded!

Nails done, sun glasses and bikini tops, check!

I'll leave you with a Drokas Mash up of 2ne1 songs!
I can't wait to party! ;)
P.S. Check out his other mixes on his yt channel! :)

Adios, Manila!

The Kpop Bug: Big Bang and 2ne1

I have never been a big k-pop fan before because I wasn't comfortable with hearing/singing songs that I do not understand.  However, years back when I found out that Sandara Park is a member of 2ne1, I began to listen to their songs.  Although I did not turn into a blackjack (the term 2ne1 fans call themselves) right away. I would only watch 2ne1 videos on tv.  In the midst of boredom, as I was watching youtube, this Korean boy band caught my attention.  With their good looks, swag and talent, they got me hooked!  They are the first korean boy band to have caught my attention.  I have never been a fan of other Korean boy bands because I found them too metrosexual.  But this boy band is just oozing with swagger!  Who is it? It's no other than Big Bang!  I soon familiarized myself with their songs, and even their beginnings. I researched about them and even watched previous documentaries and shows they starred in.  I was very much delighted to have discovered that Big Bang belongs to the same label as 2ne1, YG Entertainment.  And I instantly became a fan of YG Entertainment!  Big Bang, 2ne1, Se7en, Tablo, they are just so talented! I sometimes wish of being Korean so I can audition at YG! Haha

I can't help but spazz!  I have turned into a fan girl!  GD's musical genius, Taeyang's ABS, and T.O.P.'s glare! GAAAH!!! :)) Okay, I should stop now.  I'll spazz in another blog post. Anyways, here's a video of Oh Yeah with GD & T.O.P. and 2ne1.  I love this performance.  They are all just  comfortable with each other.

Back in the game!

After a month of hibernation, I finally came out of my cave.  I really missed my friends! I'm really so touched that they missed me too! The reason why I went off the radar was that I became too hooked on sns, particularly facebook.  There were days where I spent hours and hours online just browsing through people's pages.   In a way it made me closer to them without initiating real, face-to-face interaction.  Pathetic, right? I just missed the old days without facebook wherein lifetime friendships were developed over long conversations over the phone. So my one month without facebook made people wonder and worry what the hell happened to me.  Goes to show how people have become so reliant on facebook.  So now, I hope (fingers crossed!) I have cured myself of such addiction.  I'm back in the loop! And what better way to celebrate my "comeback" than with a party? ;)

But of course, I didn't throw that party.  I wish I did have the money though.  Happy that I went out today! :)  What good luck to have opened my phone and receive Juan Carlo's message regarding his grad party.  JC T. and I have been friends for about a year now.  We met through the student movement, particularly during an RH Agenda meeting.  JC's the one of the brightest and political person I know. Barely does he have a conversation that does not revolve around politics.  I'm not the most political person, and when I have something on my mind I really spill it to people I am comfortable with.  JC has been on the receiving end of my countless rants about boys. HAHA At first he wasn't too keen on listening, he'd switch back to politics mode, but after months of my rants he soon became a friend I'd forever treasure.  He'd give me advice and genuinely listen to my problems.  And of course, months  of countless meetings on tactics and strategies, his political mind has rubbed off on me.  Win-win for both of us! :))

After a trip to Baguio, two trips to Iloilo, countless nights of meetings and sleepless nights, I believe this friendship is forever.  And I am proud to be JC's friend. One day, this guy will definitely be a prime mover in Philippine politics.

To JC, if ever you chance upon this post, know that I am always here for you. Pakabait ka! :))  Para sa bayan! :)
